Aron is in his second year of Law School at the University of Windsor. He is a 2016 Youth Bursary recipient and member of Community First CU.
While academics success is important to Aron, his extensive volunteer commitments caught our attention.
He wrote on his application, “It is with great pride that I list some of my most impactful efforts of service in the communities I have been a part of. Firstly, I acted as an organizer, Director of Finance, and board of director for the local Terry Fox Foundation for over 3 years in Sault Ste Marie. This organization’s culminating initiative, after a year of planning and various small fundraising events, is the annual Terry Fox Run for the Cure. On average, we have been successful in raising approximately $35,000 in annual donations for cancer research, with approximately 500 runners/ participants. Additionally, I have been a rather large advocate of the Relay for Life fundraiser and have participated as a participant and organizer for over 5 years.
I was actively involved with several other community boards as a Director. As an annual executive board member for “Gangplank”, a Centre for Social Innovation/Collaboration, I was actively involved in planning and organizing seminars and networking events focusing on bringing together innovative members of the community to spur social innovation. My time as a board member for the Sault Youth Association was spent strategizing, planning, and engaging in community events for the youth of Sault Ste Marie. Finally, I served as a board member for two consecutive years with the STRIVE Young Professionals Group, which was a sub branch of the Sault Ste Marie Chamber of Commerce, which focused on young professionals. The STRIVE executive put on events such as local leader talks, social networking events at local lounges, and Gala fundraising events. I was instrumental in recruitment of members, promotion to the community, and strategic guidance on the organization’s terms of reference.”
Good luck with your studies Aron, and when you have time, your community efforts are appreciated.
