CU Succeed Youth Bursary Recipients Big Winners
June 24, 2019 – Oakville, Ontario – The 28th Golf Classic & Culinary Class held this month proved it remains one of the best networking events for credit union leadership and sponsoring vendors. Mother Nature was less than cooperative but that didn’t dampen the spirits of those who attended. The threat of rain was persistent, with a window opening in the afternoon which allowed most golfers to finish before the rain began to fall. We were hosted by the very beautiful private Markland Wood Golf Club for a second year.
After a BBQ lunch golfers headed for the course, while the cooks left for Cirillo’s Culinary Academy a short distance away to sharpen their knives and their culinary skills. The meals they prepared were donated to Elisa House, a local shelter. Everyone returned to Markland Wood for happy hour (sponsored by DUCA), and dinner (sponsored by Alterna).
The exciting news is the event generated net revenue of $68,316 which will fund future CU Succeed Youth Bursary awards for deserving students who are members of (or are children of members) of OCUF member credit unions in Ontario.
Doug Childerhose commented after dinner, “Fiserv is proud to support the Ontario Credit Union Foundation Golf Classic and Culinary Class event as the title sponsor. We are especially pleased that our contribution helps the Foundation to fund the CU Succeed Youth Bursaries. The $100,000 being awarded this year will make a huge and positive impact on the lives of many young students.”
OCUF Board Chair Dan Coldwell added, “We are very grateful to Fiserv who was back as title sponsor this year, and to all our sponsors, supporters, and participants who collectively come together for this very worthy cause. One more time we proved, together we really can make a difference!”
The event will take place next year on Monday June 8, 2020.

About ONTARIO CREDIT UNION FOUNDATION
Over the past 40 years the Ontario Credit Union Foundation (OCUF) has supported credit unions and co-operatives with their philanthropic giving in communities across Ontario. The Foundation is like private and local community foundations in that it administers funds created by donors for specific charitable purposes. In addition to the 40 plus funds OCUF manages, they maintain a general fund used for their main charitable activity, the support of youth education and leadership.
