Hamilton, ON – May 23, 2025 – The Ontario Credit Union Foundation (OCUF) is proud to announce Northern Credit Union as the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Corporate Achievement Award, recognizing the credit union’s unwavering commitment to community investment and social responsibility that goes far beyond expectations.
This prestigious award celebrates an OCUF member organization whose financial support, volunteerism, and community programs have made a profound and lasting impact. Northern Credit Union’s inspiring dedication to the people and communities of Ontario, demonstrated most recently through its Giving for Good initiative, embodies the very spirit of this honour.
Launched in 2022, Giving for Good empowers each Northern Credit Union branch, hub, and office to identify and support local charities aligned with the unique needs of their communities. In 2024 alone, this grassroots initiative contributed $56,400 in donations and over 40 hours of volunteer time, directly benefitting causes such as hunger relief, mental health support, and youth recreation. Since its inception, Giving for Good has provided more than $176,000 in total contributions, reflecting the genuine care and responsiveness of Northern’s team members across 25 communities.
“Giving for Good is a powerful example of how locally focused action can drive significant change,” said Rea Vriends, Executive Director of OCUF. “Northern Credit Union’s hands-on, community-led approach ensures that resources go where they are needed most.”
In addition to Giving for Good, Northern Credit Union demonstrated broader leadership in community investment throughout 2024, contributing over $233,000 in donations and sponsorships and committing more than 1,800 volunteer hours to local organizations. These efforts align with Northern’s mission to foster thriving, healthy, and equitable communities through economic development and financial stewardship.
With a membership of 88,000 across Ontario, Northern Credit Union continues to serve as a vital partner in community growth—not only as a financial institution, but as a driving force for social good.
